Travel Guide: Getting around Qiandongnan Prefecture



By air
To the west of Qiandongnan Prefecture is the Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport, 160 km from downtown Kaili City and linked by expressway. With tens of air routes to major cities in the country, the airport receives 5 million person-times annually and can handle large and medium passenger planes. To the north of Prefecture lies the Tongren Daxing Airport, designated as a tourism one and 100 kms from Cengong County. To the east of the prefecture is the Liping Airport that was completed in 2005, a major tourism designated airport, which can handle Boeing 737. To the southwest will be the tourism-designated Libo Airport, 80 km from Rongjiang County. To the southeast is the Guilin Airport, a key air hub, 200 km away from Congjiang County and linking with major cities in China and with Southeast Asian countries.


Be sea
Qiandongnan has convenient waterways of the Wuyang, Qingshui and Duliu rivers and their tributaries. The waterway is regularly dredged and the prefecture has necessary wharf facilities. Tourists can shuttle back and forth in small wooden motor-driven boats and iron ships for 10-100 passengers. Boat cruising along the Wuyang, Longao and Bazhou rivers is a favorite among tourists.

By highways
No. 65 Expressway traverses Qiandongnan Prefecture from east to west and passes Majiang, Kaili, Taijiang, Jianhe, Sansui and Cengong. National Highway 321 passes Danzhai, Rongjiang and Congjiang counties.

By railways
The Hunan-Guizhou double-track railway extends from west to north of Qiandongnan. It passes Majiang, Shibing, Zhenyuan and Cengong. The Guizhou-Guangxi Railway runs from the southwest of the prefecture and passes Majiang and Danzhai counties. Over 20 passenger railways and travel trains pass here, which stop at Kaili, Zhenyuan, Shibing, Huanping, Cengong and Yuping. Each year a large number of tourists arrive by train at scenic spots including Kaili and Wuyang River.
